Billy sniffed at his clothes. They still had a vague scent of fishguts to them, but it was the best he could do.

Besides, this was Port aux Basques and the entire place typically reeked. Especially in October. Today was no different; he could see the Wolf des Meeres docked with a flock of seagulls swarming the thing. Looked like a fresh catch; he wondered why Sal would ever go fishing in the state she was in.

He turned to look at Bennie, who still looked as strong as ever, save the slightly prominent baby bump (which contained a little being who would never sit still. Ever.). The image inducer she was wearing had her dressed in some very nice-looking clothes that wouldn't ever be torn up by her locomotion.

"I bet you it's a zoo in there," he remarked, reaching for the doorbell.

The door popped open before he could touch the bell, and Vic grabbed him by the head and yanked him inside.

"Don' even think'a, it, Peddle, the elf's jes' got the kid stopped screamin'," growled the big mutant, dropping him on the pile of boots under the coat hooks.

"Um." Billy righted himself once he was inside. "What's she screamin' 'bout?"

"Ow." Bennie winced and laughed, then laughed again as her unborn son decided to mosh at the little stranger. "There, little rockhopper, b'y."

And meanwhile the little pet flying lizard that Billy had been sure he'd left behind suddenly skittered up from his back to his shoulder and yawned.

Sal looked over at Billy and blinked. "The hell's that thing?"

"No clue, b'y." Bennie shrugged, then grinned at Kurt as he sat up groggily and looked for the baby.

"Ach!" The blue man blinked, then looked down at his rumpled PJ pants and vanished abruptly, taking Stephan with him.

Sal frowned slightly, listening to Billy's laughter.

"I'm not even gonna ask."

He closed his eyes, repeating 'no' to himself over and over under his breath in German.

Sal made a very weird face, completely confused at Kurt's nonsensical reaction. If this guy was from his home reality, then that meant that not everyone he knew was dead.

It was a happy occasion. Wasn't it?

She sighed. "Want me to tell him to leave? I can tell him to get the fierfek out of my house. I'm good at intimidating people like that. He's packing quite the present, though..."

"I'll pass that on to Logan." He smiled his usual arrogant seeming smile, which then cracked into a genuine grin as Stephan jumped on him again.

"You... aimin' t' share that?" asked Vic with cautious hopefulness.

"No, b'y, I'm gonna sit in th' corner and chaw on it all meself," Sal said sarcastically, then laughed. "Here." She handed over the ham. "Do whatever you want with it."

Kurt gave her a reproachful look as Vic laughed at him.

"Suck it up, elf." The big man set down the platter of sliced ham, then added a few bottles of beer and a mug of notcoffee for Sal.

Sal looked back at him, all smiles, completely nonplussed.

"I has a point," she said, taking another piece of ham, "and you knows it."

"Some day all the bad stuff'll stop," said Stephan suddenly, showing that he understood way too much of what they'd been talking about.

Jean-Paul and Kurt both shot him guilty looks.

Sal just grinned and looked at the little boy.

"Ain't that the truth," she said softly.

"Oh yeah." She chuckled and took a long pull at her drink, then quirked her eyebrows as her unborn son kicked the coffee table hard enough to make a thunk.

Sal chuckled. "Then that's why they don't have an eye fer the game. Billy couldn't explain Quidditch to half the wizards at th' Academy and he was on the damn team."

The living room was empty but for Kurt when she returned. Her husband was sitting on the couch, contemplating the contents of a brightly coloured folder as his tail twitched thoughtfully.

"What, nobody stuck around to say goodbye?" Sal looked mildly put out by the fact.

He stroked her hair and let his forehead rest against hers. "No."

She kissed him. "I didn't think so."

Then she took a step back and grinned. "So are we going, or...? I mean, as long as you left the flannel here, I got no problem with what you packed." Then she frowned. "Do I even own a swimsuit?"

"Neine, the basement. I think she's playing vith Jeimu's machine."

Sal strained her ears and could hear Speed over Beethoven playing. She grinned. "Yep, she is."

She looked into his eyes and smiled before heading down to the workshop.

"Hey," she said as soon as the round was finished. "We're um... going to Hawaii. You, me, Celeste, and yer dad. And um... we're going now."

She chuckled. "Best go get some stuff if ye wants t' come."

"Okay." She went up carefully, toes gripping the treads, then breathed a sigh as she reached the top.

Kurt looked around from where he was hunkered next to a small pile of luggage. "Ach, cute!"

"I knows, eh?" Sal's smile only got wider, and she put a reassurring hand on Jabez's back.

"Ja, und then zip the bag up at the sides." He gestured with his chin, then smiled again at Celeste. "Do you like that, liebling?"

Sal did as told, grinning as Celeste babbled back at her father.

"Not even a month old and already she's runnin' off at the mouth."

"I thought you'd like that." He chuckled, his grin widening as his eyes danced with delight at her expression.

Kurt facepalmed. "Now I vonder if I should have left that DVD at home."

Sal snickered. "I'll be too busy trying and failing to get a suntan to watch movies."
